Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce today confirmed that a contract has been signed with Telecom and Vodafone to supply fibre to rural New Zealand under the first phase of the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI). View the Minister’s statement on the Beehive website. The agreement will provide 95% of rural schools with ultra-fast broadband access (capable of 100Mbps) - with 700 connecting directly to fibre networks, and 48 schools receiving digital microwave radio connections. The Ministry of Economic Development has advised that the roll out is expected to begin in the second half of this year and be completed by 2016. A list of all schools included under the Telecom/Vodafone proposal and the expected year in which they will be connected is available on the Chorus website.
The Ministry of Education will be emailing all schools this week with an update on progress with both the rural and urban fibre initiatives, to assist schools with their planning. More information about the Rural Broadband Initiative is available on the Ministry of Economic Development’s website Please don’t hesitate to email us at ufb.schools@minedu.govt.nz if you have any questions. Cluster Network Meeting Cluster network meetings in 2011 will take a blended approach with a range of face to face and online opportunities to connect, share, discuss and disseminate information with current ICTPD clusters.
Our first opportunity to meet will be a series of live sessions using Elluminate. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the expectations of Goal 5 - sharing professional reflections on the VLN, to share your cluster’s approach in meeting this goal, as well as any clarification of other milestone requirements.
These sessions are optional and there will be other blended opportunities to connect throughout the year.
Each session is expected to take about 45 minutes.
There will be three opportunities to take part in this Elluminate session:
